As a former professional and international soccer player Eamon was capped 23 times for Ireland. He has been a writer and broadcaster for over 40 years and written five best selling books including an early memoir Only a Game?, U2’s biography Unforgettable Fire, Sir Matt Busby’s biography A Strange Kind of Glory, Roy Keane’s autobiography Keane, and most recently his own memoir, The Rocky Road.

As a newspaper columnist Eamon has written for a number of newspapers, most notably the Irish Daily Star and the Sunday Independent. He was a contributor to RTÉ’s soccer panel for 40 years and was the editor and presenter of the drivetime radio show The Last Word for five years in the newly established Radio Ireland (now Today FM). Eamon launched The Stand in November 2016.

Hi Eamon with the repeated reports of Everton being docked 12 points for bad management.... with 1 financial charge against them. This would surely relegate a once great club. Is the penalty overly severe considering that A. 2 years ago 6 clubs were set to leave the league for a European Super League and they got off with a Superficial small fine compared to this penalty facing Everton? B. Man City have 100+ charges against them. ... and no consequence as of yet? C. FFP makes big clubs bigger

The Irish government wanted to install meters with a view to charging for water usage. There was no question of privatising supply;this was scaremongering on the part of opposition parties. Payment based on usage would cut down on wastage and is sensible in my opinion.

There is a big difference between a border manned by the Irish and the one that was manned by British soldiers. The Irish are not an occupying force that are actively engaged in a war with many of the people crossing the border.
