Our Editor's Take

Morrison Mysteries is an anthology podcast that presents classic fiction. While each season is about a different short story or novella, they revolve around the same theme. They all examine the human psyche. It's an exploration of people's faults, triumphs, and tragedies. The emotions transcend time and place, even if the language sometimes feels archaic.

The Morrison Mysteries podcast begins with Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The narrative takes place in a small town north of New York City. It uncovers a tale of a man and a woman who couldn't be more ideal for each other. He was the new teacher in town, friendly and ambitious. She was the beautiful daughter of a wealthy landowner. All he had to do to win her heart was tell her he loved and wanted to be with her. He planned to do so at the biggest party of the year, with the whole town gathered around to see his triumph.

What ended up happening had nothing to do with love. There was a heart-stopping chase in the dead of night. A monster on horseback was getting closer and closer. There was one horrible sight and then silence. What happened in that murky and lonely place? That is a question that's haunted the town for 200 years. This podcast tells the story.

The podcast's narrator, Keith Morrison, has a broadcasting career spanning over five decades. He worked for CBC News in Canada before joining NBC in the US. Morrison reported on critical historical events. As a journalist on CTV, Morrison reported on the Yom Kippur War in Israel and later won several awards for it. Many people might recognize his calming voice as the Dateline host. He continued his passion for true crime in podcasting with shows like The Seduction.

Morrison Mysteries is a departure from that genre. In this series, Morrison uses his talent to give classic stories a new adaptation. His pleasant yet commanding voice pulls listeners into famous tales.
