Have you ever heard these myths about decluttering? Myth 1: If I get rid of something, I'm getting rid of the memories attached to it. Myth 2: I might need this one day, so I can't let it go. Decluttering helps you mentally, emotionally, and even physically. It keeps you more active in your house and gives you a sense of control over your surroundings. - Nicky Asher-Bowling
Understand emotional tiesOne of the primary challenges faced during decluttering is the sentimental value attached to belongings. Although it can be difficult to let go of items grounded in emotions or memories, it is necessary for creating a simplified, stress-free environment. It's about striking a balance between keeping what truly matters and letting go of the rest.

Change starts with me. I am breaking the cycle of depression and creating a better future for my family. - Nicky Asher-Bowling
I remember the day I started to confront the shadow of depression that had been looming over my family for generations. It was a cold winter day, my own mood mirroring the gloomy weather outside. I looked at the solemn faces of my family members - my mother, my grandmother - and realized that this was a cycle I didn't want to repeat. It wasn't easy, but I took the first step towards breaking the cycle. I opened up a conversation about our shared struggle. It was uncomfortable, but necessary. We started educating ourselves, diving into books, articles, and videos about depression. It wasn't a personal weakness, but a medical condition that deserved attention and care., Slowly, the conversation shifted towards healthy coping mechanisms and support. As a family, we started to understand and recognize the signs of depression. We learned how to express our feelings, to ask for help, to be there for each other. I pushed myself to make positive lifestyle changes, to create an environment that promoted mental well-being. It was a journey, filled with difficulties, but a necessary one. Today, I'm proud of the strides we've made as a family. We've not only broken the cycle of depression, but have also become stronger, more resilient, and more understanding in the process.

Charity Parenzini's story starts like an unlikely hero's origin story. She was in the midst of a bustling city life, working as a professional actor and producer. Charity was entrusted with the arduous task of
being a liaison between a group of producers from Los Angeles and an
organization aiming to raise funds for human trafficking. Charity wasn't just a middleman. She was an idea factory, birthing plans that would get the funds where they needed to be. One of her ideas was to educate frontliners, the ones who could actually rescue these children. As she delved deeper into this world, she found herself at the helm of a nonprofit organization, fueled by a generous donation and her own reluctant determination. Her journey was filled with
unanticipated challenges and startling discoveries, but it was a path she was meant to tread., In an unexpected twist of fate, Charity Parenzini found herself entrenched in the fight against human trafficking. What started as a casual conversation over lunch, soon catapulted her into a world she had never planned to explore. Even the decision to revert to her maiden name, Parenzini, was a symbol of the transformation she was undergoing. Working as a liaison between a group of producers and a human trafficking nonprofit, she realized the importance of educating those on the frontline. This idea became the cornerstone of her work. As she immersed herself in this world, the depth and breadth of the industry stunned her. She discovered the dark link between pornography consumption and the sex trafficking industry, and how a simple device like a smartphone could be a gateway for predators. This was a wake-up call and energized her resolve to fight against this insidious industry. Her journey was not easy, but the thought of protecting innocent children kept her moving forward.

Be honest with yourself and take action.
Setting Realistic Goals
When it comes to decluttering, to avoid getting overwhelmed, it's not just about starting small. A vital component is setting realistic goals. Each person's capacity differs, especially when dealing with depression or anxiety. It's essential to understand your limits and work within those constraints rather than aiming for big, unrealistic targets. An attainable goal keeps you motivated, whereas a daunting one could put you off entirely. Nicky Asher-Bowling emphasized this a lot during the session. There was a certain relatability when she shared how she started from decluttering one single drawer and then worked her way up. She stressed the importance of being kind to oneself, accounting for the gradual pace as an achievement rather than a drawback. Her message to listeners in a similar situation: Every small step counts, and it's okay if things take more time. An insightful takeaway indeed!
Starting Small and Setting Realistic Goals
There's no rulebook for decluttering that states that you have to clean out your entire house in a day or a week. Don't put unnecessary pressure on yourself! Take baby steps, start with a small task like cleaning a single corner or organizing a drawer, and gradually increase your target. Remember to set realistic goals - targets that are achievable for you. Nicky Asher-Bowling touched upon this when sharing
her own journey in the podcast. It's fascinating to hear about her approach - how she started small with the task of decluttering. She stressed creating a comfortable pace for yourself without feeling overwhelmed. In her own words, decluttering should be 'a marathon, not a sprint.' It's good advice for anyone, even those not dealing with depression or anxiety. Check out the Summer Decluttering cleaning series on the podcast or YouTube. Comment, like, and subscribe to the YouTube channel for more content. Rate and review the podcast on Apple iTunes to provide feedback and support. Look up Dawn Madson, the Minimal Mom, for decluttering tips and inspiration. Start small and set realistic goals for your decluttering projects.
· Use the four-box method (trash, donate, keep, undecided) when decluttering.
· Follow the 90-day rule to help you decide what to keep and what to let go of.
· Seek support and accountability from a friend, family member, or coach.
· Get ridof the items you decluttered as soon as possible to prevent re-cluttering.
· Be honest with yourself and avoid making excuses for keeping unnecessary items.
· Take action and implement the decluttering strategies discussed in the podcast.
· If you need accountability, reach out to Nicky for support and guidance.
·Consider paying for subscriptions annually to reduce monthly expenses and clutter.
