Our Editor's Take

Making decisions can feel overwhelming when one needs more knowledge or confidence. The MoneyWatch with Jill Schlesinger podcast answers the questions about finance people have been afraid to ask.

Certified Financial Planner Jill Schlesinger hosts the MoneyWatch podcast. She is a business analyst for CBS News. Her column, Jill on Money, is in national syndication. She has also published two books about money. One of these is The Great Money Reset.

As Jill says in the podcast's trailer, "This is the show where your money is not scary." She invites folks to email her. Listeners can ask questions about small business management, retirement planning, or education funding. She might recommend to a married couple not to file their taxes together. While explaining her reasoning, she jokes about the husband's career choice. Jill is honest and direct. Helping people understand their relationship to money is her main goal.

Some listeners get to read their questions live on the podcast. Jill and the caller have a helpful and engaging conversation about their challenges. A listener asked how to maintain retirement savings while moving. Sometimes Jill will look at a website with the caller to help them. The call-in aspect of the show makes listeners feel heard and supported. It can also feel like a nod to old-fashioned radio shows.

Everyone is in a different place when it comes to finances. Advising someone to talk to a CPA might make sense for one person. Paying a CPA may not be an option for others. While one caller appreciates counsel about a bond index fund, another might never see this term. Having listeners determine the direction of the content makes MoneyWatch educational and accessible. Fans of this program may also like Jill on Money with Jill Schlesinger. That's Jill's other podcast.
