EPISODE 126: METS SEASON COMES TO HEARTBREAKING END IN WILD CARD

October 10, 2022

These Mets…just got eliminated by a team that went all-in at the trade deadline to win this season.

These Mets…failed when they needed it most.

These Mets…had a tremendous regular season…but in the end…a season that ended in a wild-card exit.

It’s hard to wrap your head around how quickly it all turned for these 2022 Mets. They seemed on their way to a NL East title. Then one bad weekend in Atlanta and one bad weekend in Queens…and it’s all over in the blink of an eye.

This season brought me personally and this fan base so many lifelong memories. Buck Showalter and company were so easy to root for. They had so many likable players on the team, a mix of veterans, young players and guys between. They had two aces, two leaders in the lineup and the best closer in baseball. They had a no-hitter, walk-offs, comebacks, improbable wins and so much adversity at times that they overcame.

EPISODE 125: METS-PADRES NL WILD CARD PREVIEW FEAT. STEVE GELBS

October 6, 2022

101-61.

What a remarkable regular season for the Mets. They finished with the second-best record in franchise history. While last weekend in Atlanta was brutal and they lost out on the NL East crown, you just have to applaud the Braves for edging them out. Buck Showalter and these Mets deserve their flowers for one of the best seasons in the history of the 61-year franchise.

But now it’s time to prove themselves in October. It’s not going to be easy as they take on the Padres in the best-of-three Wild-Card Series this weekend at Citi Field. San Diego had their number in the regular season, winning four out of six games. But these are two different teams from the ones we saw in June and July. Both have made key additions that could end up making or breaking the series. It should be an electric atmosphere in Queens.

To look back at the memorable 2022 Mets regular season and preview the NL Wild Card Series, we bring you a special playoff edition of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me. We were joined in the second half of the show by SNY Mets field reporter Steve Gelbs to preview the playoffs, recap the season and relive his favorite moments being a part of it all.

EPISODE 124: METS SWEPT BY BRAVES TO LOSE NL EAST TITLE

October 3, 2022

Life comes at you fast. The Mets’ lead in the NL East was 10.5 games at the end of May. As of Oct. 3, they are two games behind the Braves.

The Mets were swept by the Braves over a miserable weekend in Atlanta. The offense did not put up enough runs. The starting pitchers didn’t dominate. The Braves looked like the better team, despite the Mets having the upper hand for a good portion of the season.

The result? The Mets will likely have to play in the NL Wild Card round, potentially against the Padres in a best-of-three series at Citi Field. It was a terrible weekend and the Mets will have to find themselves this week, and hopefully get Starling Marte back. They desperately need him for Friday’s Game 1 of the wild-card series.

To talk about the nightmare weekend in Atlanta, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and Jake Brown. We hosted the show from the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City.

EPISODE 123: TERRY COLLINS TALKS METS PLAYOFF PUSH, ROTATION, WORLD SERIES CHANCES

September 26, 2022

There’s one animal that stands alone as the Mets all-time single-season RBI leader, and it’s the Polar Bear.

Pete Alonso passed Mike Piazza’s 124 RBIs with his five-RBI day Sunday, getting him to 128 on the season, to go along with 39 home runs in what has been a tremendous year. Oh yeah, and the guy hitting ahead of him, Francisco Lindor, has reached 103 RBIs. Two-hundred thirty-one RBI between your Nos. 3 and 4 hitters is the recipe for a potential championship team. The Mets are setting themselves up for a special run, but are hoping to hold the Braves off and win the NL East first.

In a normal season, 100 wins would be good enough to win a division title. It’s going to take closer to 103 or 104 wins potentially to hold off the Braves. It could all come down to this weekend in Atlanta. To look ahead to that critical series and discuss the Mets series win in Oakland over the weekend, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and Jake Brown.
