Description

This podcast is for smart and progressive women wanting to reach their professional and financial goals. We explore the squiggly lines of career success in our 9-5s, self doubt and stories from our favourite intrapreneurs who have made it to the top, and those that are on their way. We alternate these in conversations with a monthly D & M on the world around us. Here, Rosey and Mikayla chat, dissect and inform on all things important to women. We want to educate and empower by diving into all things, from negotiating salary increases to the gender pay & investing gap, overcoming Imposter Syndrome, feminism, business, the monthly news cycle, money tools and success and all the little ups and downs that we intrapreneurs go through on our way up.

Our next INTRApreneurial guest is the Chief Marketing Officer behind the global self tan sensation, BONDI SANDS! As one of their earliest staff hires, Alex is knocking on the door of her 5-year anniversary with the dominating FMCG brand, having seen it grow from a team of 4 to 45, with offices in Melbourne, LA and London. So how exactly did she land the coveted dream job, combining her passion for business, marketing and beauty? In her very first podcast interview, Alex shares her trajectory to success, comparison being the thief of joy and the sobering journey of being made redundant at 23. We talk about this redundancy and the impact it had on her confidence and sense of value, the transition stage, a chance encounter and opening her next door. Alex lets us in on the exact interview process she went through with Bondi to land the initial Snr Brand Manager role and the clever project she executed to seal the deal. What we loved from this chat was her emphasis on the iceberg paradigm and the reminder that the glamorous life we see online, comes with the hard work from behind closed doors. We hear what it was like to secure the legendary partnership with Walgreens (the USA’s retail giant) and leading the brand’s biggest activation at Coachella, including the learned lesson upon reflection. Alex’s strong growth mindset, infectious attitude, and passion for the company she works for was evident from the start of our conversation, and a clear indicator of how she’s been able to reach C-Suite at one of the most iconic beauty brands in the world. Welcome, welcome, welcome, you are going to love our latest intrapreneur in-conversation on the Her Career Pod. Today we’ve spoken to the inimitable Maddy Westbrook, a woman whose ambition and career achievements didn’t come without taking some huge risks and pushing through challenges in her childhood. Maddy’s story of building her successful corporate career at Duco, managing $20 million budgets, suing one of the world’s biggest celebrity chefs, and pulling off New Zealand's biggest sporting events, to leaving it all for a new life, in a beachside town in Australia, is JUST.SO.CAPTIVATING! We discuss what it was like for her at 24 and being taken seriously as a young woman in the business of sport, negotiating health retreats into packages, and trusting the universe had her back.  Maddy’s path to success isn’t linear and her story will give you insight into her contagious growth mindset and the steps she took to find her dream role in Australia as General Manager of the Dr Libby Group. She’s been a pivotal, behind the scenes player in building that business into one of Australasia’s leading health and wellness brands, including 13 # 1 best selling books, a well-recognised nutritional supplement range, online courses and sold out events.  Despite all of her great career success, Maddy is such a humble and generous person and has the type of attitude you just want to be around all the time. We’re incredibly fortunate to actually have her as one of our Her Career mentors. We hope you enjoy getting to know this vivacious human and all her wisdom as much as we did.  Just a quick note here, this is an occasional clicking sound the first 10 mins of this recording. In this month's Her Career D&M Mikayla and Rosey discuss their fav recommendations of the month, from a nod to the great RBG to BP's new CEO, his potentially game-changing climate and business plans, and as an aside, how he got Rosey’s vote for 2020 Silver Fox, AOC, our political powerhouse icon, and her disassembly of the patriarchy during a makeup tutorial (Who's got contacts? We need her on the pod!) We unpack EY’s 55% record rate of internal promotions for women to partner, female leadership quotas, the fundamental importance of advocating for ourselves at work and the consequence of self-deprecation for women vs men, plus the privilege of assumed-competence, and finally, we hear from a woman in our community who's juggling huge work opportunities with colleagues who have vastly-different personal values. CHILLLLLS! Today on the show we have the most incredible Korero (discussion) with Tiana Epati, President of the New Zealand Law Society and Partner at Rishworth, Wall & Mathieson. Tiana rarely does interviews so we’re over here pinching ourselves that we had this chat (props to our CCO for making it happen). Tiana is one of NZ’s most highly regarded lawyers, previously working as a Crown prosecutor for over a decade, awarded Lawyer of the Year in 2019, and in October 2018, landing her biggest professional role yet - elected as the 31st President of the New Zealand Law Society.   In today’s chat we speak about dealing with the extra expectations on women when they land senior roles, where she draws her excellence and motivation from, waitressing and the sliding door moment that changed her career, mental health, her role during the global pandemic, mentoring, finding courage despite people saying she would never win the presidential campaign; that she was too inexperienced and too young, pregnancy and career progression, and the one piece of advice she would give to women wanting to advance their career, regardless of the profession (it’s a good one).   You don’t need to be a lawyer to take stock of Tiana’s leadership prowess and everything in between. This is a conversation every ambitious professional should listen to – out now on Spotify and iTunes.   Our friends at Hatch are sponsoring this episode (thank-you Hatch!), to receive their generous offer and invest in the world's biggest brands, click the link here https://hatch.as/HerCareer   Follow Tiana Epati on Linkedin or IG @tiana.epati and join us @hercareer_ausnz, visit www.hercareer.org or join our private Facebook Group ‘Millennial intrapreneurs thriving in their 9-5’ and weigh in on any of the things we spoke about today! In today’s episode, we speak about the high-end fashion industry and its bubble that just popped, the low-brow goodness that is Selling Sunset and the world’s problem with women having too much ambition, Anita Kendrick and finding the attitude to push on in her career, negotiating salaries and advocating for yourself, Bridget Loudon becoming the youngest ASX 200 board member EVER (we name drop the ONE board on the ASX yet to catch up). We also chat about Tik Tok being at the heart of a geo-political dog fight and what this could mean for advertising and business growth strategies, female leadership and likability, dealing with rejection when you thought it was your dream job, and finding mentors for your career – we even share the café moment that started our professional relationship.   Our friends at Hatch are sponsoring this episode, to receive their generous offer and invest in the world's biggest brands, click the link here https://hatch.as/HerCareer Follow us on Instagram at @hercareer_ausnz, visit www.hercareer.org or join our private Facebook Group ‘Millennial intrapreneurs thriving in their 9-5’ and weigh in on any of the things we spoke about today!
