Our Editor's Take

Counterclock is a true crime podcast with a difference. Investigative journalist Delia D'Ambra sheds light on cold case murders. The host leaves no stone unturned in this deep-dive investigative podcast.

Each Counterclock season focuses on a single story. The extended format allows D'Ambra to examine her subjects exhaustively. She taps into the thoughts and accounts of witnesses, family members, and investigators.

The cold cases covered include the unsolved murders of two North Carolina women in their twenties. Both crimes occurred in the '90s. The fate of these two young victims had a personal resonance with the host. Investigating them on Counterclock, Delia D'Ambra goes back to her North Carolina roots. The third season investigates the shocking Pelley family massacre. This unsolved quadruple homicide shook the community of Lakeville, Indiana, and the nation in 1989.

In 2014, D'Ambra began her career in journalism. Since then, she has specialized in unsolved murders and cold case mysteries. D'Ambra also hosts the Park Predators true crime podcast. This series explores crimes and mysteries that take place in US national parks.

Audiochuck, a female-owned media network, presents the Counterclock podcast. Fans of Ashley Flowers' Crime Junkie and Phoebe Judge's Criminal won't want to miss out on this binge-worthy series.

Season 6

Season 6: The Death of Douglas Wagg, Jr.
Today
Season 6: The Death of Douglas Wagg, Jr.
Since the release of CounterClock Season 1, Delia has received hundreds of requests from families of victims of violent crime. In November 2022, one message in her inbox stood out from the rest. It was from a middle-aged woman asking for Delia's help investigating the mysterious death of her 27-year-old brother from 1991. The message stood out for one big reason. The man's mangled body was found in an all-too-familiar place to Delia. Eastern North Carolina.Thirty-three years after Douglas Wagg, Jr. turned up on a lone stretch of railroad tracks in the middle of the night in rural Martin County and over a year since Delia took on the case the scope of what was really going on in the area during the 1990's has come into view. Who was Doug? How did he end up so far from home? Who was he last seen with? Was the train really what killed him? Why was his case never investigated? The journey to find the answers to those questions has revealed a web of small town secrets that feel like fiction, except they're not. Over the course of the Season 6 investigation Delia has interviewed more than 45 people, spoken with convicted murderers in prison, and traced the origins of a disturbing pattern of behavior within local law enforcement that may have resulted in a decades-long cover up of multiple deaths. The investigation into what happened to Doug Wagg appears to be just the tip of a very large, very complicated iceberg that someone has worked hard to keep hidden for more than three decades. For even more time with CounterClock, follow us on social media.Instagram: @counterclockpodcast | @audiochuckTwitter: @CounterClockPod | @audiochuckFacebook: /CounterClockPodcast | /audiochuckllc

When 57-year-old Bruce Cucchiara was gunned down in the parking lot of a New Orleans East apartment complex in 2012 his murder devastated his family and stumped law enforcement. The father and business man seemed to be well-liked and on a positive path as he coasted toward retirement. He was also worth $5 million in life insurance. For more than a year CounterClock's Delia D'Ambra has investigated the case and unraveled a web of bizarre information and circumstances about his life and those who benefitted from his death. The geographical and political setting of the murder has a dark history of corruption, fraud and violence and at every turn Delia discovers Bruce's complicated business life may have put him in the crosshairs of several bad actors. From allegations of a setup and ties to organized crime to Bruce being a key witness in a multi-million-dollar lawsuit to random robbery...each scenario is something the New Orleans Police Department can't rule out. Now, 11 years after his brutal slaying the questions still remain, who murdered Bruce? Why was he even in New Orleans East? Where is the murder weapon? Delia has discovered new information, tracked down witnesses and revealed secrets within the victim's closest circle that will blow this unsolved case wide open.
